I suggest you ...

column-mode select and multiple select

I want to be able to select a square block of text or to use ctr+click a different points in the document and the when I start writing to insert the text simultaneously in different places. Notepad++ has this, Textmate has is and Vim had it. I'm not touching this editor until it get column-mode select and multiple insect and multiple select (all of these are actually facets of the same feature, but I don't know how it's called).

FYI, Redcar already has a block mode that can select blocks of text. Press Ctrl+B or edit>selection>toggle block selection. Unfortunately though you can't start inserting/editing in different places like textmate/e/notepad++. The ability to insert/edit text at once at selected places in a document is definitely doable.

it's called "visual block mode" in Vim but even Visual Studio has something similar. I used E on windows because it had this feature, but now I see it's also in Notepad++ (not enabled by default, god knows why, so I had to stumble across it in a random setting dialog) so I'm back to Notepad++ for lightweight editing. It's so useful that it should be mandatory for any GUI editor, event windows' notepad.exe should have it!

        * multiple insert I mean, that's how the feature is called in Notepad++, I don't seem to be able to edit it for the typo...
